How do I move LegalPro and SoloPro to another computer?

  1. Determine the location of your LegalPRO/SoloPRO files.
  2.  

    Start LegalPRO/SoloPRO.

    At the prompt PLEASE ENTER YOUR PASSWORD, type *VER

    Write down the locations shown for the Program, Data, Working and User directories.

    Press ENTER.

    Press ESC.

On a network version, perform this step on each workstation. Each workstation must have a unique User Directory.
  1. Make sure no one is running LegalPRO/SoloPRO.
On a network version, none of the workstations should be running the program.
  1. Copy the directories determined in Step 1 from the old computer to the new computer.
Be sure to copy all the directories, any subdirectories and their contents to the new computer.
  1. On the new workstations, modify the CONFIG.SYS file or create one if it doesn't exist.
The CONFIG.SYS file must contain the following command:

FILES=199

It is only necessary to add this command on computers that actually run LegalPRO/SoloPRO. Do not add this command to a dedicated server.
  1. On the new computer, make sure the LegalPRO or SoloPRO batch file exists on the server.
The Program Directory should contain a batch file called:
    • LP.BAT (for LegalPRO users)
    • SP.BAT (for SoloPRO users)
    • RM.BAT (for Management Company users).
Use this batch file to start LegalPRO/SoloPRO.If the batch file does not exist in the Program Directory, copy the file called 2.BAT from the User Directory and rename it appropriately.All workstations can use this batch file as long as it does not contain a drive specification.
  1. If you are running a standalone version of LegalPRO/SoloPRO, skip to Step 7.
If you are running a network version of LegalPRO/SoloPRO, ensure that each workstation has a unique User Directory, Time # and User #. This information can be found by following Step 1 on each computer.The AUTOEXEC.BAT file on each computer that runs LegalPRO/SoloPro must contain the following command: (It is not necessary to add this command to a dedicated server.)

SET TNMBR=00 (for the workstation with the user directory of \PBS\U00)SET TNMBR=01 (for the workstation with the user directory of \PBS\U01)SET TNMBR=02 (for the workstation with the user directory of \PBS\U02) etc. (for each workstation)

SHARE /F:4096 /L:500 (for the Server) SHARE /F:2048 /L:250 (for the Workstation)

  1. If you are running Windows 95/98/NT, create an icon for LegalPRO/SoloPRO on each workstation.
    • Right-mouse click anywhere on the desktop.
    • Click New.
    • Click Shortcut.
    • In the Command line box, type:
C:\COMMAND.COM /E:2048 /C \PBS\SP.BAT (for Windows 95)- or - C:\PBS\SP.BAT (for Windows 98/NT)

(If you are running on a network, use the drive letter of the server.)

    • Click Next>.
    • In the Select a name for the shortcut: box, type LegalPRO or SoloPRO.
    • Click Finish.
  1. If you created an icon for LegalPRO/SoloPRO, set up the properties of the icon on each workstation.
    • Right-click once on the LegalPRO/SoloPRO icon.
    • Click Properties.
    • Click the Program tab.
    • Change the name beside the icon to LegalPRO or SoloPRO.
    • In the Working box, type the path of the User Directory determined in Step 1.
    • Click Apply.
    • Click OK.
 

CAUTION: Do not remove your original LegalPRO/SoloPRO until you have verified that the program is working correctly with current data on the new computer.
