How
do I move PCLaw (Windows) Version 2 to another Computer?
- Determine
the location of your PCLaw PROGRAM and DATA files.
To
determine the location of your PCLaw PROGRAM and DATA files:

Start
PCLaw.

Click
the Help pull-down menu.

Click About PCLaw.
-
Hold
down the Ctrl key and the Shift key on your keyboard
while you click Tech Support.

On
the Alumni Computer Group Data Directory Dump window, the
location of your programs is listed to the right of the word PROGRAM:.
Write down this path. THIS IS YOUR PROGRAM DIRECTORY.

On
the Alumni Computer Group Data Directory Dump window, the
location of your data is listed to the right of the word JOURNALS:.
Write down this path, excluding the \JS\ found at the end of the
path.

For
example, if the location of the journals is shown as C:\PCLAWWIN\DATA\JS\,
then the location of your data files is C:\PCLAWWIN\DATA. THIS
IS YOUR DATA DIRECTORY.

Make
sure no one is running PCLaw.
- Copy
the PROGRAM directory (determined from Step 1) and its contents,
including all subdirectories, from the old computer to the new computer
(or backup this directory and restore it to the new computer).
- Copy
the DATA directory (determined from Step 1) and its contents, including
all subdirectories, from the old computer to the new computer (or
backup this directory and restore it to the new computer)
Note: With many installations, the DATA directory is a subdirectory of the
PROGRAM directory. If this is the case, it is not necessary to copy
the DATA directory a second time.

Run
the Setup program:
-
Select File and then Run from the Windows Program Manager.
(If you are running Windows 95/98 or NT, click Start and
then Run.)

Type pclawpath\setup (where pclawpath represents
the location of your PROGRAM FILES).
-
Click OK.

Read
the welcome message and click OK to continue.

On
the Book Selection window, select ATTACH AN EXISTING
SET OF BOOKS. Click OK.

Select
the drive on which to install the PCLaw program files or accept
the default location. Click OK. (With networks, PCLaw executes
faster when the programs are installed on the local workstation.)

Type
the name of the subdirectory in which you want to install the
PCLaw program files, or accept the default. Click OK.

Select
the drive letter of the PCLaw data files on the new computer.
Click OK.

Select
the location of the data files where you copied your data in Step
4. Click OK.

If
Setup determines that your CONFIG.SYS file needs updating, you
see a window informing you which changes should be made. Respond Yes to have the necessary changes made automatically. Respond No to leave your CONFIG.SYS file intact for now. You should
make these changes manually when Setup is complete.

The
final window informs you that the installation process is complete.
Click OK to return to the Windows Program Manager.
CAUTION: Do not remove your original PCLaw until you have verified that the
program is working correctly with current data on the new computer.
